Beliefs and Doctrine
The Followers Church exists to help people become members of a true gospel-centered community where we learn together what it means to follow Jesus. The ultimate purpose of the Church is to celebrate and enjoy God, what is called worship. This is the ongoing learning and celebration of how holy, righteous, powerful, loving, wise, and full of grace our God is.
We are Christ centered
We are a Jesus-focused church: people who believe, trust, and follow Jesus alone.
We are a missional church.
We are looking at ways to love and serve our surrounding community, building sincere friendships with people outside the church, and intentionally spending time with those who do not know Jesus so that we can continue to share the great news of the gospel with others, so that they too can enjoy the freedom and peace of a close relationship with God.
We hold a Reformed theology.
God is supreme and fully in control. Creation is his work and nothing happens that is not according to his plan. Jesus' work on the cross is central in God's plan to justify (save) and sanctify (grow) His chosen people. Our salvation is thanks to God's work, not our own efforts.
We believe in the active work of the Holy Spirit in the Church.
Jesus promised the Spirit as our helper. The Spirit helps us to understand and apply the bible to our lives, praying on our behalf, and providing individuals with spiritual gifts with which they can serve the church. Spiritual gifts can be controversial and misrepresented. They are to equip the church to continue the ministry of Jesus. We must rely upon the Spirit's work within the church, not upon the abilities of man. The use of spiritual gifts is to be orderly within the church, not used for experiential highs or amusement. The use of spiritual gifts is to be in accord with the faith of the gifted person. Spiritual gifts are given to us so that we can serve others.
