It's All About Jesus

We are people following Jesus. We are learning what he said, what he meant, and how it affects our lives today. We look to Jesus as our savior, our king, and our example.

The Gospel, the good news that Jesus saves us from the wrath we deserve, is the center of God's redemptive plan. Jesus lived a perfect life without any sin and then suffered on a Roman cross, shedding his blood, and dieing as the perfect sacrifice, fully covering the sins of those who believe in him. He rose from the grave 3 days later, proving his victory over death. Jesus is fully divine and also had a fully human walk on earth. He has always existed as one of the three persons of God, along with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the ultimate Priest: caring for men and bringing them into God's presence, the ultimate Prophet: declaring and explaining God's will to men, and the ultimate King: claiming ownership of and ordering all that has been created. Jesus calls us to a life of faithful service to God's kingdom which requires that we die to our own desires each day. The name of our church comes from Matthew 16:24 when Jesus is explaining to his disciples that they must be willing to loose everything to follow him. By nature we are a self-centered people, looking for our own glory and comfort. Jesus shows us that our eyes should be on the Kingdom of God, which is far more glorious and fulfilling than our earthly pursuits will ever be. Jesus said that the world is opposed to his followers and that we will be hated, but that our response should be one of loving service and prayer for those who persecute us.

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?"  -Matthew 16:24-26 (ESV)
